What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Is it really okay to teach our children that they have to dress and act a certain way simply because of a characteristic given to them at conception without any form of choice? Teaching girls to be weakened and boys to be strong and aggressive will only lead them to continue on that way as adults. As children, they will limit themselves based on what everyone around them says they should and shouldn't be able to do based on their gender, and this could very easily cause some confusion or loss of potential later down the road. In the first picture for example, it is extremely clear to see which outfit is male and which is female oriented. The males are expected to be tough and athletic while the females are expected to be gentle and "pretty". But what if you came across an nonathletic boy, or a girl who decided looks were irrelevant? Would you consider them failures for not living up to their given stereotypes? What about if the roles were reversed and you came across an extremely athletic female and a male who was very confident in his outward appearance? Would you shatter them and tell them to start over "the right way"? It's best to not limit a child of any kind of aspirations they have growing up by forcing them to abide by society's gender stereotypes- There's nothing wrong with a girl who is amazing at sports, just like there's nothing wrong with a boy who isn't. Each child has their own molding potentials and forcing them into and out of stereotypes through the way they're dressed DOES NOT help them any more to succeed in life.
