What is Expected of Boys?
The moment that a boy is announced into the world, a large number of expectations is placed on him about who he should be and how he should present himself to fit into the world. They are immediately placed in "masculine" colors and their aggressiveness and masculinity is passed off as acceptable, simply because they are male. Dressing them in darker colors, with more vivid, 'manly' details helps to encourage this angry and controlling behavior in most boys, and it shows them that they are expected to be tough-even at the youngest of ages. |
Overall... Should we really limit our sons by expecting them to be mature and in control at such a young age? What about the boys who's personalities reflect tenderness and compassion? Is it really such a good idea to mask those positive traits at such a young age by teaching them to dress as young rebels? |
